Chest Pain



Chest pain
arising from the oesophagus may mimic that of heart pain and occur behind the breast bone.  It is commonly due to acid reflux or spasm of the muscles in the oesophagus and may be accompanied by dysphagia.  It can also occur when there is obstruction to solids during the process of eating.  Discomfort with hot and cold drinks (odynophagia) this represents inflammation of the oesophagus (oesophagitis).
